    Windows 11 is getting a force quit option to close apps without the Task Manager. Similar to macOS, it will allow Windows users to force crashed apps and buggy ones directly from the taskbar without having to open Task Manager. Microsoft has confirmed at its Build developers conference this week that it's adding the feature soon.

    Mimestream is the Mac app every Gmail user needs

    Mimestream is the email app for Mac that just came out of a yearslong beta. The app, created by a small team led by Neil Jhaveri, does almost everything Gmail does at least as well as Gmail. It doesn’t do IMAP and POP3 and all the standard email app stuff.

    New AI research lets you click and drag images to manipulate them in seconds

    The latest example is only a research paper for now, but a very impressive one, letting users simply drag elements of a picture to change their appearance. The interface is exactly the same as traditional image-warping, but rather than simply smudging and mushing existing pixels, the model generates the subject anew.

    Google is replacing Chrome’s misleading lock icon

    Google announced Tuesday that the lock icon will be replaced by a new ‘tune’ icon with the release of Chrome 117 in September. The new tune icon isn’t getting any additional features otherwise and will continue to mark plaintext HTTP (few as they may be) as insecure on all platforms.

    The Verge Apollo, the popular Reddit app for iOS, could face millions of dollars in fees as a result of Reddit’s new paid API model. Reddit announced changes to its API policy in April, which allows the platform to put limits on the number of API requests made by a third-party client like Apollo.

    Apple today previewed a bundle of new features designed for cognitive, vision, hearing, and mobility accessibility. Users can create a Personal Voice by reading a set of text prompts aloud for a total of 15 minutes of audio. Apple says the feature uses ‘on-device machine learning’ to keep users’ information private and secure.
