A CodeWeavers engineer has opened a merge request to make Wine use Mesa's Zink OpenGL-on-Vulkan driver by default. Zink would be built as a Windows PE binary, simplifying the OpenGL implementation path for Windows games and apps running under Wine. The change targets Mesa 26.0.3 and can be disabled via '--disable-mesa'. The rationale is fewer corner cases, simplified testing, and alignment with Vulkan as the future graphics API as hardware vendors reduce OpenGL investment.
