Intel's open-source ANV Vulkan driver is disabling Vulkan Video encode support on Gen12.5 and newer hardware (Arc Alchemist, Battlemage, Meteor Lake+) due to insufficient testing. The decision follows a bug report about H.264 encoding failures with FFmpeg on newer hardware that developers couldn't reproduce or test. The Vulkan Video work has primarily come from community contributors like Red Hat and Igalia rather than Intel, who focuses on VA-API. Decode support remains enabled on newer hardware.
