The Hazel game engine's Renderer 2025 overhaul is complete and merged into the main dev branch. The core change replaces Hazel's custom Vulkan-only abstraction layer with NVIDIA's NVRHI (Rendering Hardware Interface), which abstracts Vulkan, D3D11, and D3D12 backends. This shifts maintenance of the graphics API abstraction to Nvidia's library while Hazel retains a fork for custom patches. The change improves cross-GPU vendor compatibility (notably AMD) and reduces internal maintenance burden. Shader pipeline abstraction across APIs remains incomplete, as NVRHI doesn't handle shader compilation. Dear ImGui was also upgraded to a much newer version as part of this effort.
