FFmpeg 8.1 is nearing release with a release/8.1 branch now created. Key additions include expanded Vulkan hardware acceleration (Apple ProRes encode/decode, DPX, compute codec optimizations, swscale support), initial JPEG-XS support via SVT-JPEG-XS (parser, encoder, decoder, muxer/demuxer), Direct3D 12 AV1 and H.264 encoders, EXIF metadata parsing, tiled HEIF support from the CLI, Rockchip H.264/HEVC hardware encoding, MPEG-H 3D Audio decoding, LCEVC support, and experimental xHE-AAC MPS212 decoding.
