A patch has been submitted to make the AMDGPU driver the default for GCN 1.1 APUs (Kaveri, Kabini, Mullins), replacing the legacy Radeon driver. Led by Valve's Timur Kristóf, the change brings better OpenGL stability via RadeonSI, Vulkan support through RADV, improved performance, and better display features via DC. Users can still opt back to the old Radeon driver via kernel parameters. The patch may land in Linux v7.1 or be deferred to v7.2.
