    Scroll Shadows With JavaScript

    scroll shadows are when you can see a little inset shadow on elements if (and only if) you can scroll in that direction. You can actually pull it off in CSS, which I think is amazing and one of the great CSS tricks. Except… it just doesn’t work on iOS Safari.

    Announcing Ionic 6

    Ionic 6 has fewer breaking changes than both the previous Ionic 4 and Ionic 5 releases. We are adjusting our release schedule to better coincide with iOS and Android software releases. The Ionic team is keeping an eye on Material You and waiting for more guidance to be released by Google.

    Announcing React Native 0.66 · React Native

    React Native v0.66 for Android 12 and iOS 15 support alongside fixes and general updates. New app template now includes a CocoaPods workaround (thanks to @mikehardy!). New Bluetooth permissions on Android and we plan to update the targetSDKVersion to 31 in the next release.

    Flutter 2.5 is out with 4600 closed issues and 3932 merged PRs. Performance Improvements on iOS iOS has less jank, consumes less CPU and power, and is more performant now. iOS 8 support is deprecated. IntelliJ/Android Studio Run integration tests support. New ability to preview icons.

    Developers appear to be losing interest in macOS

    In 2020, developers released 392 apps on average per month for the Mac. In 2021, that’s dropped to 343 per month. Appfigures isn’t too optimistic about the outlook going forward. Apple itself last year said that it receives more than 100,000 apps or app updates per week for iOS.

    Apple’s Browser Engine Ban Is Holding Back Web App Innovation – The New Stack

    Apple blogger John Gruber suggested web developers “should not be trying to create a ‘native like app’ in a web browser’ Gruber said this in relation to increasing criticism of Apple for not allowing competing browser engines on its iOS platform. By forcing browser vendors like Google, Microsoft and Mozilla to use the WebKit browser engine, Apple is deliberately restricting the functionality of web apps.
