    Deno: Desktop JS Evolved

Deno is a system for executing JavaScript code in various environments ( desktop, command-line, server, etc.) Unlike Node.js, Deno restricts a script’s capabilities by default. Without explicit permission, a Deno script can not open network connections or access the environment.

Why I left Node for Deno 🦕

Deno is a javascript runtime like Nodejs but with some changes. With Deno, you no longer need to install packages with package managers like NPM. Imports are done with Urls which can be either in deno's package manager with versioning, or directly on the git directory of your favorite library.

Designing a URL Shortener in Deno

Deno is the new JavaScript and TypeScript runtime written in Rust. It offers tight security, TypeScript support out-of-the-box, a single executable to run it. We'll be using one of these libraries, Oak, to build a REST API-based server in Deno. Building a URL shortener we'll use for mapping URLs with their final endpoints.

Deno vs. Node: A Detailed Comparison

Deno is a safe TypeScript run-time on Chrome V8. It had been initially written in Go and now has been revamped in Rust to remain far away from potential garbage collector issues. It executes the code in a sandbox as opposed to Node so by default our program does not have access to the file system, network or environment.
