Amazon’s Zoox has officially introduced its fully autonomous robotaxi service in Las Vegas, marking the first deployment of purpose-built autonomous vehicles for public transportation. The service offers free rides through the Zoox mobile app at designated pickup and drop-off points around the Las Vegas Strip, including major locations such as Resort World and AREA15.
What sets Zoox apart from competitors is its unique vehicle design, which has been developed over more than a decade. These toaster-shaped vehicles lack traditional controls such as steering wheels and pedals, instead featuring face-to-face seating to enhance passenger interaction.
Currently, the service includes remote operator assistance to ensure safety and efficiency. While rides are free initially, Zoox awaits further regulatory approvals to begin charging passengers. There are also plans to expand this innovative service to San Francisco, with a total of 50 vehicles expected to be deployed across both cities in the near future.
