Automated accessibility scanners catch only about 40% of issues and cannot evaluate usability quality. A more complete approach combines three types of browser-based tools: automated scanners (Silktide, WAVE) for code-level violations, manual tools (HeadingsMap, Web Developer) for structure and content hierarchy, and experiential tools (Web Disability Simulator, Zoom for Chrome) for simulating how users with visual or cognitive disabilities perceive a page. Each category has distinct strengths and limitations, and using all three together uncovers barriers that no single scan can detect.
