Today I decided to let go and let AI lead the way. We have a user funnel that tends to break. Nothing dramatic, just enough edge cases that I wanted a dashboard to monitor it closely.
Our analytics data lives in BigQuery. I was too lazy to set up the BigQuery MCP for Claude Code myself, so I just asked it to install it. It did.
I gave it access to the codebase so it could understand which events to query. It did a complete review of the funnel including all the edge cases. Then I needed it to set up the actual dashboard in our analytics tool.
I first tried browser automation using the Chrome plugin, but it was painfully slow. Clicking through UIs is not what AI agents are good at.
So I asked it to look for an API instead. It found one, but it was enterprise-only. Dead end.
I asked if there was anything else we could try. It reverse-engineered how the app dispatches requests internally, and mimicked those calls through my authenticated browser session. And it actually worked!
Problem solved. No enterprise plan needed.
The takeaway for me: stop assuming what AI can or can’t do. Our mental models are outdated. Just try. Most of the manual work we still do out of habit can probably be automated.

Your mental model of what AI can do is probably outdated

using AI as a tool, or even teacher… cuz you really can ask Claude for example, what is wrong with my code… it really helps evolving architecture knowledge.

One thing I wanted to add is that it’s not only the tooling / models that gets better. We are getting better at using it as well. So the more we try and test things the better we understand how to use them effectively
