GitHub contribution graphs are poor indicators of developer skill, productivity, or engagement. The green squares don't account for work in private repositories, complex problem-solving that requires few commits, automated jobs, or the fact that senior developers often spend more time reviewing, planning, and coordinating than writing code. Many developers contribute to the community through writing, teaching, or videos rather than open-source commits. Not everyone needs to code after hours to be a great developer—some simply do excellent work during their job and live their lives outside of it.

I’m new to prgrammign and honestly, I just like to use it as a habit tracker

…it’s a heatmap. It measures what it measures, pure git activity for that account. Why is this even a topic of debate.

I use a separate account for my own personal projects, every project on there is private, if “green squares don’t account for work in private repositories”, I’d never see any green squares, which isn’t the case.
