The Linux Cast

The stereotype that Linux can't be used for 'real work' is challenged. While specialized software like AutoCAD and Adobe products may not be fully supported, most other tasks can be done efficiently on Linux. The author talks about their own experience using Linux for text editing, development, and content creation, arguing that Linux is as productive as other operating systems for the vast majority of users.

You Can't Do Real Work on Linux

I have to admit that this click bait title is really effective.

tbh, after years of linux driving, i purchased a new laptop with windows installed and I can’t stretch it enough how tedious, unproductive, and annoying windows is for REAL WORK. I have to go through so many hoops just to even install a mere software. Forget about neovim, git, and many other things… man, I miss my linux.

People say you can’t do real work on Linux yet half the internet runs on it. Real work isn’t about the OS, it’s about how well you use its power.

It’s been over 20 years since I HAD to use a windows laptop, prior to that inhuman experience I had been using a laptop with Solaris installed, all of my IT career has been wit large UNIX systems. After I managed to rib myself of the Windows thing, my laptop computers have been Linux except for one MacBook Pro used for one visual effects client, ( still have that machine), but I been using Linux as my daily driver for better part of 15 years, and there has been no work I could not do, and do more efficiently.
