A fan-made project called WSL9x brings a Windows Subsystem for Linux-like experience to Windows 95, allowing users to run a modern Linux kernel (6.19) cooperatively inside the Windows 9x kernel. No reboot is required — just type 'wsl' at the MS-DOS prompt. The project provides paging, memory protection, and preemptive scheduling, and the source code and setup guide are available on Codeberg.
