Fear-based marketing posts claiming you're "already behind" for not adopting specific tools are manipulative and insincere. A successful career doesn't require chasing every trend—Flash, Second Life, blockchain, and other hyped technologies came and went without derailing those who didn't adopt them. Focus on delivering quality work at your own pace rather than reacting to manufactured urgency from thought leaders promoting products.

Hold on… Was “moving from the web to Second Life” a thing? I’ve heard about Metaverse, but this one? I totally missed that. 😄
On the serious side on things, this is the first post in a long time that has a lot of sanity attached to it. All this “if don’t know XYZ, you’re out of the market” crap is just FUD and a marketing ploy to get people aboard. “Fake it, till you make it” (the biggest one yet) - get people aboard and maybe (that’s a big “maybe”) the solution will take the shape and inertia you want it to have (and things will magically work out). It had a lot of people burn out or at the edge of it (myself included).
We survived a lot of these, as the author suggested: Flash/Silverlight (dead), Second Life/Metaverse (didn’t pick up), exclusivity for mobile (let’s be real - you can’t do everything on a small screen), social platform apps (less and less relevant, probably dying - the “Farmville hype” is long gone; replaces by “mobile games” and Roblox), crypto/blockchain (over 15 years have passed since Bitcoin creation - in the end it didn’t revolutionize anything, except for cyber-crime, I guess 😆).
I’m now patiently waiting for the same sanity wall on the AI’s path. In the end AI will be a glorified assistant to us, not our replacement. The voices are already shifting (AWS’ CEO on junior developer hiring, Safe’s CEO on basically the same, and now even Microsoft’s CEO in his latest LinkedIn post - I won’t be linking those here, you can find them easily).

I have observed these types of posts across LinkedIn, YouTube, Reddit, and Facebook as well—often framed with the same urgent claim that “you are already behind if you don’t try this.” Your critique resonates strongly, especially regarding how these messages exploit professional anxiety rather than offering genuine value.
As humans, we each have natural limitations in time, focus, and expertise. It is neither realistic nor sustainable to chase every emerging trend—whether in web development, AI, ML, blockchain, or any other field. True mastery and meaningful contribution come from sustained focus on one domain at a time, rather than spreading oneself thin across multiple fast-moving landscapes.
My perspective aligns with yours: rather than being pressured into constant adoption, we should choose a path that allows for depth over breadth. By focusing deeply on one specialty, we not only build genuine expertise but also create a lasting, impactful footprint in our chosen field—without being driven by the fear of “falling behind.”
