AMI Labs aims to challenge the prevailing reliance on large language models (LLMs) by focusing on ‘world models’ that understand and interact with the physical environment. LeCun, serving as the executive chairman, argues that LLMs are inherently limited due to their lack of true understanding or reasoning about the physical world.
To address these limitations, AMI Labs will develop systems based on JEPA (joint embedding predictive architecture), designed to analyze video, audio, and sensor data. This approach is intended to create abstract representations of how the world functions, offering potential applications in fields such as robotics, autonomous vehicles, and industrial processes. The company plans to offer an open-source alternative to established AI players in the US and China.
