A neural brain implant provides near instantaneous speech

Researchers at UC Davis have developed a neural prosthesis that translates brain signals directly into speech sounds and phonemes with near-instantaneous response. Unlike previous brain-computer interfaces that converted thoughts to text with significant delays and limited vocabulary, this system focuses on sound production to enable more natural, expressive communication for paralyzed patients. The breakthrough addresses major limitations of existing BCI communication solutions, including latency issues and lack of prosodic features like pitch and intonation.
