Android XR is Google's extended reality platform built on Android in collaboration with Samsung and Qualcomm, supporting both VR headsets and AR glasses. The platform allows developers to build immersive 3D experiences using familiar Android tools like Jetpack Compose, with new form factors including the Galaxy XR headset, XR glasses (transparent with stereoscopic display), and AI glasses (monocular display). Developer tooling includes new emulators, Glimmer UI toolkit for AI glasses, material components that automatically adapt to XR, and support for 3D models via glTF. Apps can run on XR devices without modification, though developers can enhance experiences with features like orbiters (floating UI components) and spatial adaptations.
