XPrize founder Peter Diamandis has launched the $3.5 million Future Vision XPrize to encourage filmmakers to create optimistic sci-fi stories about technology. Inspired by Star Trek, Diamandis wants to counter the prevalence of dystopian narratives in modern sci-fi. Sponsors include Google, Marc Benioff, Cathie Wood, Ben Horowitz, and Rod Roddenberry. Contestants submit 3-minute trailers by August 15, with finalists funded to produce 10-minute shorts. The grand prize winner receives $2.5 million in production funding plus a $100,000 cash prize, with potential for an additional $5–10 million via Republic Film crowdfunding. AI tools are encouraged but fully AI-generated submissions are unlikely to win.
