The Xen Project has updated its stable branch support policy to provide five years of support for all releases, replacing the previous scheme of 1.5 years full support plus security-only support up to three years. Starting with Xen 4.20, releases now get three years of full support followed by security-only support until five years post-release. Older versions 4.17, 4.18, and 4.19 also receive security-only support extended to five years total. The project deliberately avoided LTS labeling to ensure consistent support across all releases, with a focus on embedded and automotive use cases. Separately, Citrix/XenServer quietly released a preview of XenServer 9, featuring NUMA optimizations, Host Secure Boot, a Dom0 kernel upgrade to 6.x, and other enhancements, as the product aims to re-enter the general-purpose hypervisor market.
