Reddit is rolling out a new human verification system to combat the growing bot problem on its platform. Suspected automated accounts will be required to prove they're human using privacy-preserving methods such as passkeys from Apple, Google, or YubiKey, biometric services like Face ID, Sam Altman's World ID, or government IDs where legally required. The system won't apply sitewide — only to accounts flagged by behavioral signals or technical markers. Reddit will also introduce an 'APP' label for legitimate bots, similar to X's bot labeling. The company removes around 100,000 bot accounts per day and is working on improved tooling. CEO Steve Huffman emphasized a privacy-first approach, aiming to confirm a human is behind an account without revealing who that person is.
