I’m not convinced using mongoDB here is such a good choice.
You state that being schemaless is a benefit… but you use mongoose to have a schema… While MongoDB is really fast at inserting documents (mainly because…it’s schemaless…) and reading documents… it’s not that good at modifying documents. Did you made any tests against a Postgresql based solution ?

I think the title is a bit misleading. This is just a Node.js service, not a microservice.

JavaScript on the server might be my biggest mistake.
