Tools for Humanity (World, formerly WorldCoin) has launched AgentKit in limited beta, a developer tool that lets websites verify a real human is behind an AI shopping agent.
The system works by tying World ID — derived from iris scans via the company’s Orb device — to AI agents through a cryptographic delegation. When a user registers their agent with their World ID, websites can confirm that a verified human has approved the agent’s purchasing decisions. The company describes it as a kind of digital power of attorney.
On the technical side, AgentKit is built as an extension to x402, a blockchain-based payment protocol developed by Coinbase and Cloudflare. The combination lets merchants check both identity and payment authorization in a single flow.
The timing isn’t accidental. Amazon, Mastercard, and Google are all building automated buying capabilities into their platforms, and fraud concerns around agentic commerce — scalping, spam purchases, bot abuse — are already surfacing. World is positioning AgentKit as infrastructure for that problem.
Whether it gains traction is another question. World has around 18 million users, and its WorldCoin token is down roughly 76% from its 2023 peak. The pivot to AI agent identity looks like a bid to stay relevant as the original cryptocurrency pitch has struggled. The iris-scan requirement also remains a hard sell for privacy-conscious users and regulators — the project has faced bans or investigations in several countries.
AgentKit is in beta, with no public timeline for a broader release.
