WordPress 7.0 has entered the Release Candidate phase. Due to a technical issue delaying the creation of the 7.0 branch until RC2, all commits to trunk require double sign-off by two core committers. The RC1 release marks the hard string freeze, meaning no new strings are permitted and translations won't be available until the 7.0 branch is created. Only regression fixes and test suite expansions are allowed on the 7.0 milestone for the remainder of the cycle. After RC2 and branch creation, trunk will be opened for WordPress 7.1-alpha development.
