Linux 7.1 mainline kernel adds native PREEMPT_RT real-time support for the 32-bit ARM architecture, eliminating the need for out-of-tree patches. Previously, real-time support was available for x86/x86_64, ARM64, RISC-V (since 6.12), and LoongArch (since 6.13), but older ARM SoCs required external patches. A Git merge prior to Linux 7.1-rc1 cleaned up ARM fault handling to enable this. The remaining out-of-tree RT patch queue now consists mainly of Intel i915 DRM driver fixes, a /sys/kernel/realtime sysfs entry, and PowerPC real-time support.
