Wingtech Technology has filed a lawsuit against its subsidiary Nexperia in a Chinese court, seeking at least 8 billion yuan ($1.1 billion) in damages following the Dutch government's forced seizure of the chipmaker in October 2025. The case invokes China's Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law and marks the first major legal challenge to a European government's takeover of a Chinese-owned semiconductor company. China has already retaliated by blocking Nexperia from exporting chips made at its Chinese facilities. The lawsuit tests whether China's Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law has practical reach outside its borders, and could set a precedent for how Chinese firms respond to Western semiconductor restrictions. Wingtech's 2025 net loss widened to 8.7 billion yuan partly due to the loss of Nexperia control, and the company may also pursue a claim under the China-Netherlands bilateral investment treaty.
