Yes it has, and no one cares about a resume. and I only hire people who have more than they can fit on the resume and usually don’t have a resume as they are self employed.
When evaluating a potential new hire, it’s important to consider their past projects and personal interests. Coding should be a passion for them, not just a job. This will ensure they have a strong understanding of the field and can bring valuable insights to the team. It’s best to hire individuals who possess a high level of expertise and can bring a fresh perspective to the table. This not only benefits the company but also helps to expand the knowledge base of the team. I personally seek out individuals who have a level of intelligence that surpasses my own, as I believe it drives innovation and growth.

From the hiring perspective of a small to medium size business Github profiles with personal projects are nice to have, but not mandatory.
As another commentor said, in smaller teams we look carefully for people that can work well together and leverage their skills with others who specialize in a different technical area.
We are more interested in what you can do in a group than how you perform in isolation. Software development is largely a team sport.
For technical interviews, after a brief technical screen, we work through a joint coding exercise to evaluate coding skills as well as communication and collaboration. Top candidates will successfully bounce ideas off one another and choose the best option.
Again, it differs by company size, industry and the hiring manager. I hope this provides some added insight.

As a hiring manager, I can say that the article is accurate. It doesn’t replace your resume, but your GitHub profile and activity are considered for specific roles.
I hire mainly within Developer Relations and an active GitHub profile; some well-maintained and pinned projects (with READMEs that help people run and contribute) are high on my list of things to check when reviewing an application.
I also look at Twitter, Mastodon, <a href="http://Dev.to" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">Dev.to</a>, and Medium, and I like it when someone has their own website, which points out what they consider to be most important. The resume will also highlight similar things.
