Wikipedia editors have decided to remove all links to Archive.today, a web archiving service that they said has been linked to more than 695,000 times across the online encyclopedia.

Wikipedia editors have voted to blacklist Archive.today (also known as archive.is and archive.ph), removing over 695,000 links to the web archiving service. The decision follows allegations that Archive.today's CAPTCHA page was used to run a DDoS attack against blogger Jani Patokallio by silently executing JavaScript that flooded his blog with requests. Additional concerns include evidence that archived page snapshots were altered to insert Patokallio's name, making the service unreliable as a citation source. The site's apparent owner later acknowledged they would 'scale down the DDoS.' Wikipedia editors are now replacing Archive.today links with the Wayback Machine or original sources. The site had previously been blacklisted in 2013 and removed from the blacklist in 2016.
