Why You Should Self-Host Everything

As stated in the article comments, there are many risks related that are not covered in the article at all :( especially security will be a big factor here. Im not saying its wrong idea, im am big fan of self host, but mind the downsides too.

Is that one side of the spectrum? Absolutely, but it’s a perfect example of why we pay for certain services. Not everyone should host their own homelab. Most people don’t know how to secure it well enough, including me. That’s just asking for trouble, all for the convenience of what…saving a few hundred bucks a year?
You’re not even saving money in the long term because you have to invest in the equipment in the first place, then spend the time to set it up, then spend more time migrating everything, then spend more time shutting down all your subscriptions (which is not long, but still), then you have to dedicate time on a regular schedule to ensure that your homelab is secured and all the apps are up to date. That doesn’t even including troubleshooting if something goes wrong or if there’s a power outage now your entire system is offline compared to an online solution which has an SLA or will be available wherever.
