Companies are increasingly avoiding hiring junior developers and relying on AI for basic coding tasks, but this creates long-term problems. Junior developers are essential for the future pipeline of senior talent, bring fresh perspectives to established teams, and provide necessary balance in team dynamics. Teams with only senior developers risk becoming siloed and lacking the collaborative knowledge transfer that occurs through mentoring relationships.

The flaw in this thinking is that you believe the future will be as the present in terms of needs. I do not think so.
Also as a bonus - junior devs are a big frustration to work with as they are slow to understand, create bugs, needs constant care and supervision and contribute to the growing feeling of “I’m too old for this shit” in senior devs. It is very psychologically demanding to babysit juniors, and without supervision they will go rampant

I believe this post is correct. The only thing I would add is that the younger generation should support the economy. As they grow and prosper, they will keep the national economy circulating. Investment in AI is necessary, but using AI for workforce reduction is a mistake.

On the utopia side: I think there’s a bigger chance we’re gonna ‘see Arnold Schwarzenegger showing up at the door of a retired Senior Dev in a leather jacket, asking him to fix a bug made by AI that’s threatening to destroy humankind.’ 😂
On the serious side: After ~15y in the industry and ~7y managing teams, I can say this is 100% true:
‘I know this is going to be hard to believe, but senior developers can be a bit set in their ways and often tend to have their minds made up about certain things. A good junior developer can rock the boat and inject a fresh perspective where things might have grown a bit stodgy and rigid.’

… we should forbid juniors to use AI for at least half a year!
It could be that simple - but needs more senior attention and g-g-g-guidance (as it used to be back in the days ya!)
