Why So Many Startups Fail

I would strongly emphasise the fact, that a “good idea” is not even 20% of the work to be done. From what I hear from people, especially beginners in the scene, the “idea” phase is waaaay overrated. Execution is so much more important. If you have a great idea, but cannot execute it right, it’s uselss and you will fail. If you have a good enough idea with great execution, you have good chances of succeeding. :)

Underpromise. Overdeliver. Deliver fast. Soft launch and get feedback. Feedback from customers and backers. And for the love of all that is holy, listen to the feedback. You’re wrong. <a href="https://www.ted.com/talks/kathryn_schulz_on_being_wrong" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">You’'re getting it wrong</a>. And people are telling you where and why.

And then there are the guys who develop an amazing webapplication with great UI/UX frontend, highly efficient backend, complex pipeline to process data (that is creating stunning charts in the frontend) - with HIGH customer value - and all you get is a business partner who doesn’t know marketing and how to approach customers (cold emails, showcase the product in communities, etc.) and is 1000% convinced that wiring up the Google and Facebook adverts will do the job.
Bottom line: Always listen on your gut feeling if you sense that your buddy is not up for the task. Hire 3rd party experts who know how to do marketing and implement their best practices in your startup.
