It’s so important to recognize that there are no global “best practices” that exist. You must apply Smart Practices™ that likely leverage “best practices” as starting points, but applying a framework without thought to the context you’re operating in will never produce superior results.

Everywhere I’ve worked that had “scrum” didn’t really have scrum in entirety. We just kind of had a board where people put up what they were working on and there were a few categories for progress/completion. I guess this falls into the “cargo cult” category that you mentioned in the article.
