Forever grateful to jQuery for helping navigate cross-browser, ajax, dom, and transitions back in the day, and inspiring many of JS’s current features.

I agree, but I think the post is very negative in it’s portrayal of jQuery. yes, we have native functions for a lot of the jQuery functionality now - but guess what? It’s because of jQuery we have them natively now.
I feel jQuery’s popularity showed the browser vendors how important it was for developers to actually have some form of compatibility and not just throw in features willy nilly in all new releases.
Instead we should be thanking John Resig and the team for how they shaped the web we have today!

jQuery is so much easier to learn than javascript and opened some “locked” doors for me. Still like the jQuery functions much more than vanilla JS.

If jQuery added more new innovative ideas this years, it wouldn’t have been in the state it currently is. It helped me tremendously to learn JavaScript with it, but lack of features made me look for alternatives… still its syntax is way easier to read than native one.
