Zig and Odin are pretty similar languages on the surface, but I can't help but feel like Zig is just a heavier slower language for me to work in. I see the goal, to priorize explicitness always, and account for every edge case, but it just isn't a fun language for me to work in.

Odin is preferred over Zig for its pragmatic, C-like simplicity. Key differences include Odin's context-based default allocators versus Zig's explicit passing, collections that track their allocators to prevent bugs, flexible error handling that works with standard types rather than special error enums, runtime reflection instead of compile-time execution for simpler binaries, and explicit C bindings over automatic header parsing. While Zig excels in embedded systems and OS development with tighter safety guarantees, Odin feels more natural for game development and general application software with less friction and ceremony.
