I love selfhosting. I run my own ha K3s cluster with one beefy pc and five rpi cm4’s. Managing my own K3s cluster has learned me so much about the kubernetes ecosystem and I’ve it’s been a real transferable skill
Plus, I now have my own jellyfin, airsonic servers and can listen to my own media anywhere I want 😬

personally, self hosting sucks… for the obvious reasons mentioned…
the cloud is a safe space… i have hosted a couple. and dealing with processing, storage and power (increase) and also upgrade, transfer, backup and the list goes on…pff…i just don’t mind paying for it
