Why blow up satellites when you can just hack them?

German researchers at Black Hat demonstrated critical security vulnerabilities in satellite control software, finding multiple CVEs in systems used by NASA and Airbus. They showed how attackers could manipulate satellite orbits, crash flight software, and gain remote code execution through flaws in open-source applications like Yamcs, OpenC3 Cosmos, and NASA's Core Flight System. With over 12,300 satellites now in orbit, these vulnerabilities highlight that cyber attacks may be more cost-effective than physical anti-satellite weapons for disrupting space infrastructure.
