Linux 7.1 has merged a new overhauled NTFS driver (dubbed 'NTFS resurrection' by Linus Torvalds), but the existing NTFS3 driver contributed by Paragon Software also received a batch of fixes and minor improvements. The NTFS3 update includes buffer boundary checks, memory leak fixes, an OOB write fix, a buffer overflow prevention in CLIENT_REC, fixes for mount failures on fragmented MFT bitmap volumes, integer overflow fixes, and several other bug fixes and additions. Both drivers will coexist in the mainline kernel, and comparative performance testing between the two is anticipated.
