Wear OS 7 is announced as a major platform update based on Android 17, bringing up to 10% battery life improvement for upgrading devices. Key new features include Wear Widgets (powered by Jetpack Glance and RemoteCompose), Live Updates for real-time wrist notifications, AppFunctions API for Gemini voice integration, and enhanced System Media Controls with per-app auto-launch and Remote Output Switcher. Developer tooling updates include Compose for Wear OS 1.6 with Navigation 3 support and TransformingLazyColumn improvements, Protolayout 1.4, Tiles 1.6, and Watch Face Format version 5. A Canary Emulator is available for testing. Select watches launching later in 2026 will include Gemini Intelligence.
