What happens when your AWS datacenter is blown up?

Drone strikes on UAE data centers serve as a real-world reminder of why multi-region and multi-availability-zone deployments matter. AWS regions contain multiple physically separate availability zones to protect against localized disasters. For databases like RDS, setting up multi-AZ and cross-region read replicas ensures failover if a primary goes down. Web applications should similarly be distributed across regions. At minimum, nightly backups should be in place so data can be restored elsewhere. Infrastructure as code makes spinning up in a new region much faster. Site reliability engineering is the discipline that handles these concerns at scale.
