Just when i needed to prove to a Junior that self hosting builds up knowledge and skills… Thank you!

When I was a junior dev 20 years ago, it was my dream to learn and know how to self host. With limited info and tools back then, I ended up self-hosting in my bedroom ( ofc I was attacked and breached multiple times :D ) and hell yes I learned a ton. Ended up then setting up a Debian server (also in my bedroom) and the following years went on to cloud based hosting and so on.
After all these years, I still keep a dedicated Ubuntu server locally for freelance work as a stage env and also for various other things such as NAS and various tests. Your article is so true, self hosting opens paths to new learning opportunities.

I agree with self hosting with things you use. Some people have no problems with their privacy, but with self hosting you don’t have to follow TOS or worry about breaking random arbitrary rules. Additionally, I think it’s more cost effective in the long run.
