The Rust Foundation's Rust Innovation Lab (RIL) has welcomed Symposium as its second board-approved project. Symposium is a tool that automatically installs skills, MCP servers, and other extensions based on the dependencies in a Rust crate, helping AI agents work more effectively with Rust projects. Led by Niko Matsakis (Rust language design team co-lead), Symposium aims to bring Rust's principles of interoperability and vendor neutrality to agentic development. It uses a centralized recommendations repository where crate authors can define plugins that identify appropriate extensions for their crates, with plans to eventually allow crates to package plugins directly.
