JetBrains announced that WebStorm and Rider are now free for non-commercial use, including activities like learning, open-source project development, content creation, and hobby development. I’ll need to keep my WebStorm license anyway, because I do actually use it for work as well… but at least now many more people will also have access to these great IDEs!

Making WebStorm and Rider free for non-commercial use is fantastic! This will help students, hobbyists, and open-source contributors get started without the cost barrier. It’s perfect for those unsure if they need these tools, as now they can try them freely without hesitation

This is a great initiative from JB. other wise there are many options people are using paid version for free.

Took em way too long to accept that Community edition is needed. It was always a no brainer thing to do since allowing individuals to use their tools enables opportunity for conversion to paid user.
At work i refused to use rider because i didnt want to learn and get use to rider IDE and hopping between VS Community edition and Rider, so they missed out on a license sale with my employer.
People who arent going to pay will use VS and others already have ways to bypass the trial period so they can continue using it without paying, there are only pro’s from this action.
Now they just need to fix critical bugs for me to move over fully. Like critical memory leak when debugging docker-compose .net project. after 10 minutes it runs out of memory and crashes. Dont have that problem in VS
