These days, an app is “decentralized” if it uses the blockchain. As you probably already know, this is part of the so-called “Web3” which hopes to be the next version of the internet.
I’m not the first person to tell you this, and certainly not the last, but Web3 is in fact centralized, just as Web2 was. Web3 is just a worse version of Web2.

Web3 platforms are in fact centralized, just as Web2 was. Web3 firms are for-profit businesses, and so are the VC firms backing them. You can easily run Nextcloud from your old PC instead of subscribing to Dropbox, but you can’t easily host a “dApp” on your MacBook instead of the public blockchain.

Decentralization Is Good, Just Not The Way We’re Doing It

It seems people are enought naive or just want state the obvious. Sellers are going to sell and most of developers and web3 involved people know most of dapps are not truly descentralized, also, from someone from outside seems the author didn’t research a lot to just state the obvious.
He chose to ignore the fact web3 relies on other premisses as well like transparency and zero-knowledge proof.
The claims like BTC does alot of impact on climate change is at least absurd. Like any serious scientist would be able to prove using a + b is BTC mining or else would increase sea level. Climate change is debate itself and i won’t get much into that. Since if we take Evolution perspective Earth could have millions of years so how much data would be needed or nearly-perfect math THEORY calculations to make predictions and impact on a planet that has millions of changes?
If He really got it how even like Opensea worked he wouldn’t say opensea took away their nfts. Depending on how you mint and create your contracts (let’s say within opensea) the nft has some permissions that opensea can use of.
So people invested their life savings in one thing and got broke? Shame on them basiclly, that’s stupid on web2 or web3 or RTL. That’s no argument at all.
My only point of agreement is the fact web3 is not descentralized, yeah so what? People really involved into web3 know that but that’s not the main point. There good ideas outthere really descentralized or looking foward that goal but there are other ones really focused on other aspects of it.

We have a diverse and multiples ways that blockchain and web3 can help change the internet like is doing now.
Lastly, for someone so fearful to be descentralized climate-change and all that manbojambo I had to work for Microsoft is lame.

we have much better and more efficient ways of doing immutable ledgers and true decentralization, but those don’t allow grifters to attach their environment impacting unregulated money printing ponzi schemes to them. 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️ which is why we are being pushed clunky inefficient half baked solutions in search of a problem. marketing people put their money cart in front of the horse. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I noticed this myself when I was just tinkering around on MetaMask…the URL was redirected to an AWS or a Google Cloud request…or they were using this behind-the-scenes…
