Today I want to share that we’ve decided to sunset the AI Search feature.
This wasn’t an easy call. Personally, I really liked it. It was a bold experiment. One we were excited about, and some of you gave us amazing feedback along the way. But the truth is, adoption stayed pretty low, and we don’t think it delivered enough value to keep it going.
There’s also a more technical reason behind this decision. Some of the underlying tech that powered AI Search is being retired later this year. Replacing it would have required a lot of work, and given the low usage, it just didn’t make sense for us to invest in that path right now.
We’re a startup. That means we need to be focused. Every feature we build (or keep) takes time and energy, and we want to make sure we’re spending that energy where it can have the biggest impact.
Sunsetting AI Search clears space for what’s coming next. And believe me, we have big plans. Some of them are already in the works. Others will come from the lessons we learned building this.
This also won’t be the last sunset. We’ll probably retire other features too. Not because they’re bad, but because we don’t want bloat. We want daily.dev to feel fast, focused, and truly helpful.
If you were one of the people who used AI Search, thank you. You helped us learn. And if you didn’t get to try it, don’t worry, you’ll see the benefits of it soon enough in new ways.

Good idea to reduce bloat, both from a user and a company perspective. I think a lot of people have other AI tools open that they’d rather use anyhow, but I liked the experiment!

Sometimes there are difficult decisions to take but this is a good explanation an the why it’s being taken.

Thank you for sharing this update—it’s clear this decision wasn’t made lightly. I really appreciate the transparency and the thoughtful explanation behind sunsetting AI Search. It’s inspiring to see a team that’s willing to experiment boldly, learn, and then pivot with focus when needed.
Even though it’s bittersweet to see a feature go, I love that you’re prioritizing impact and keeping daily.dev lean and purposeful. The fact that you’re already applying these lessons to what’s next is exciting! I’m looking forward to seeing how those “big plans” unfold.
