Vibe coding, coined by Andrej Karpathy in February 2025, has rapidly transformed software development. By end of 2025, 92% of US developers used AI coding tools daily and 41% of all code was AI-generated. Junior developer job openings dropped 67-46%, while senior developers (35-49) saw employment rise 9%. The real danger is a 'new tutorial hell' where junior devs ship code without understanding it, widening the skill gap. Security risks are severe: AI-assisted commits leak secrets at twice the rate of human code, GitGuardian found 28.65 million hard-coded secrets on GitHub (up 34%), and over 10% of apps on Lovable shipped with vulnerabilities exposing user data. 63% of vibe coders are non-developers, raising questions about who is accountable for what gets shipped.
