In six months, we brought home six heritage services that we're no longer selling, but have committed to support for existing customers and users. We use KVM to slice our new monster 192-thread Dell R7625s into isolated VMs, then Docker to run the containerized applications, and finally Manage Remote Server Kontainers.

We have left the cloud

$1.5 mln in savings. Jesus Christ. I wonder if the current mood for trying to find savings in companies will move some of them from the cloud to on-prem.
Probably not in most cases, since getting hardware is not feasible for many companies, there is lots of logistics to be solved and some of them don’t have room for servers that will handle the capacity they need. Nonetheless, it’s nice to have some diversification in this space.

I was already expecting they were saving money with the move but HOLY CRAP!!! Those savings are humongous!!

Awesome to see this come to fruition. I remember a good deal of discourse around the last post DHH had on this topic, mostly people saying it can’t be that easy, or that cheap, or the level of service self-hosting provides can’t meet that of Amazon.
Sounds like it met all of the above.
