The UK's Competition and Markets Authority Subsidy Advice Unit has conditionally cleared a £141.8 million subsidy request for the Post Office. The funding covers two areas: £37.4 million for ongoing Horizon IT scandal remediation and inquiry costs in 2026/27, and £104.4 million to settle an IR35 tax liability that arose from staff hired for the Remediation Unit. The SAU deemed both needs unforeseeable and not caused by the Post Office itself. The Department for Business and Trade must still make the final decision on whether to proceed with the subsidies.
