Drew DeVault introduces visurf (nsvi), a new web browser frontend built on top of NetSurf with vi-inspired keybindings and a lightweight Wayland UI. The project is motivated by frustration with the complexity of modern browsers like Firefox and qutebrowser. NetSurf supports mostly HTML4/CSS2 with limited HTML5/CSS3 and minimal JavaScript, making it a deliberately scope-constrained alternative. Planned features include interactive link selection, readability mode, and Gemini support. The author also aims to improve NetSurf itself and plans to build a new HTML+CSS framework for sourcehut that treats lightweight browsers as first-class targets.
