VisioLab, a German startup founded in 2019, has raised an $11M Series A led by eCAPITAL and Simon Capital to scale its AI-powered, barcode-free self-checkout system for the foodservice industry. The system uses a standard Apple iPad camera to identify food and drinks in under 10 seconds, requires no proprietary hardware, and can be trained on a 150-item menu in about four minutes. It is already deployed at 43 points of sale in the Orlando Magic's NBA arena, at NFL stadiums for the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers, and across roughly one-third of German university campuses. The US now represents about 50% of revenue. Funds will be used to expand internationally into Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Austria, and the Netherlands, open a Boston office, and grow the team from 25 to 40 people.
