While tools like GitHub Copilot and Spec Kit can automate implementation from specifications, watching agents write code is tedious and lacks the joy of problem-solving. The author reserves AI-assisted coding for projects where only the final output matters, preferring to manually build applications where the tech stack or implementation details are interesting.

Vibe coding is boring

Vibe coding gives you that dopamine dose, just like Instagram and YouTube shorts. You can get some things done. This easy reward can be boring. However, more importantly, vibe coding can be dangerous for your professional development in the long run. You cannot evolve without learning, and you cannot learn without going through things yourself, instead of outsourcing the outcome to an LLM agent. Of course, you can be satisfied with how far your LLM agent takes you, and there is nothing wrong with that. But for those people who want to understand how things work and get involved in bigger challenges over time, the LLM dosage must be carefully controlled.

I agree that it is boring in the sense that you lose the intellectual challenge of figuring out a complex problem and getting the code to work.

it’s definitely much more boring than coding but hype of getting things done makes up for it. All of a sudden I can also do heavily designed ticket with no designers with lots of interactions

I’m not sure if I would call it boring personally but rather draining. It provides this empty excitment that casue this weird, hangover-like feeling. Very negative in my opinion.
